Javed Akhtar did not hold back when speaking at the Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival in Aurangabad. In addition to putting the blame for the success of the films and songs being produced today on the audience, he faced those present on stage.

Without mentioning Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, starring Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor, the lyricist rued the types of movies that are popular these days. Referring to the contentious moment between Ranbir and Triptii Dimrii’s characters, he remarked, “If there’s a film in which a man asks a woman to lick his shoe, if a man says it’s okay to slap a woman, that’s dangerous.” The slapping might be a reference to Sandeep’s earlier movie, Kabir Singh, which starred Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor.

He remarked, “More than the filmmaker, the onus lies with the audience today,” laying the blame on them for the kinds of movies and music they make successful. You also accept responsibility for the movies you choose to watch. That determines the genre of movies that will be produced. You determine what should be approved and rejected. The morals and values shown in our movies are up to you,” he said.
